What does NAMI Northern Illinois do?

Who We Are: NAMI Northern Illinois is an active affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 has blossomed into the nation's leading voice on mental health. Our Mission: NAMI Northern Illinois is dedicated to improving lives of individuals and families living with mental illness through support, education, advocacy and hope. What We Do: Since 1984, our group has been serving Winnebago, Boone and surrounding counties in our region. We listen. We support those in need through various groups. We educate families and our community. We advocate by helping to shape public policy and programming for people with mental illness and their families. We lead many awareness events to encourage understanding and the importance of education on mental illness and mental health. We provide the tools, resources, and the hope necessary to improve response to mental illness for all.
