McNeese State University is a public university located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Established in 1939, it was originally founded as Lake Charles Junior College and later renamed to honor educator John McNeese. The university adopted its current name in 1970 and is part of the University of Louisiana System. McNeese offers a range of academic programs through six colleges and the Doré School of Graduate Studies.
