What does Glass Heart do?

Heart of Glass is a community arts organization based in Merseyside, operating throughout St Helens, Knowsley, and the Liverpool City Region. Established in 2014, it began as an action research project at St Helens Rugby Football Club, supported by Arts Council England's Creative People and Places programme. The organization is committed to the belief that "art belongs everywhere, to everyone," and aims to foster community engagement and meaningful change through the arts. Heart of Glass focuses on participatory and community-centered arts programming, emphasizing collaboration and conversation. It brings art projects to diverse spaces, centering the voices and experiences of participants, especially young people. Notable initiatives include the Queer Company project, which explores queer experiences in small industrial towns, and the World of Work, a collaborative board game addressing career guidance for social justice. The organization collaborates with various arts partners, including Collective Encounters and FACT, and works with the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to support local artists and projects.
