What does Generation Next Project do?

The HTx Project, officially known as "Next Generation Health Technology Assessment," is an EU-funded research initiative under Horizon 2020. Running from January 2019 to June 2024, it aims to create a patient-centered framework for real-time Health Technology Assessment (HTA) to guide decisions on access, reimbursement, and pricing of health technologies across Europe. HTx focuses on improving HTA methodologies for complex health technologies, particularly in areas with significant unmet needs such as head and neck cancer, myelodysplastic syndrome, and multiple sclerosis. The project integrates evidence from randomized controlled trials and real-world data, enhancing methods for effectiveness and cost-effectiveness assessments. It aims to develop a decision support system that provides comprehensive information on risks, benefits, and costs to healthcare stakeholders. The initiative also addresses HTA challenges that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. HTx delivers research frameworks, tools, and guidance for HTA agencies, including enhanced assessment methods and training materials. The project collaborates with various partners, including universities and patient advocacy organizations, to support integrated healthcare decision-making across Europe.
