About
The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is a private non-profit organization established in 1997 or 1998. It is dedicated to maintaining, restoring, and protecting the Emerald Necklace, a historic park system designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. This system spans 1,100 acres from Boston's Back Bay through Brookline and Jamaica Plain to Franklin Park in Dorchester, serving over 300,000 residents. The Conservancy's mission focuses on connecting people and parks through various initiatives, including advocacy, maintenance, restoration, education, and volunteer programs. It has facilitated over $60 million in capital improvements, addressing years of neglect. The organization engages the community with public services such as restoration projects, tree maintenance, educational presentations, and guided tours. With over 600 volunteers participating annually, the Conservancy fosters community involvement and enhances the health and accessibility of the parks.
