Peace Brigades International (PBI) is a non-governmental organization established in 1981 that promotes justice, peace, and human rights through nonviolent intervention. The organization deploys unarmed international volunteer teams to areas experiencing repression and conflict, responding to requests from local groups. With over 40 years of experience, PBI has supported human rights defenders in 14 countries, including ongoing projects in Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, and Nepal. PBI's mission is to create space for peace by protecting and supporting local human rights defenders and initiatives. The organization emphasizes principles of nonviolence, non-partisanship, and international collaboration. Its activities include protective physical accompaniment, international observation and reporting, advocacy, and capacity sharing.
