Black Public Media (BPM) is a prominent American non-profit media arts organization focused on funding, producing, and distributing media that represents the global Black experience. Established in 1979 in Columbus, Ohio, and rebranded in 2018, BPM is headquartered in Harlem, New York. It is the only nonprofit dedicated exclusively to developing nonfiction Black content for public media, partnering closely with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and PBS. BPM offers a range of services to empower Black content creators, including project development and funding through initiatives like the PitchBLACK Forum and BPM Open Call. The organization also provides professional development workshops, mentorships, and support for immersive media projects. Its media products include documentary films, narrative and short films, and the signature series AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange, which explores African and African Diaspora cultures. BPM is committed to enhancing representation in media and supporting underserved audiences through authentic storytelling.
